The concept of the ISO Tank Container was first introduced in the mid-20th century as a response to the need for a more secure and versatile means of transporting liquids. Prior to their development, liquids were primarily shipped in drums, barrels, or conventional tankers, each method posing its own set of challenges. ISO tank containers aimed to address these challenges by providing a standardized, intermodal solution that could seamlessly transition between various modes of transportation - from trucks to trains to ships - without the need for costly and time-consuming transfers.
