Hey fellow travelers, I'm back from my island escape and fresh off a Hawaiian Airlines flight out of Hawaiian Airlines Terminal at LAX. I wanted to share my experience, especially for those navigating the terminal shuffle, because let's be honest, LAX can be a beast.
Terminal B (TBIT): Your Hawaiian Gateway
First things first, Hawaiian Airlines relocated to Terminal B (formerly Tom Bradley International Terminal) back in October 2021. It's a spacious terminal with tons of shops and restaurants, but be prepared for some serious walking.
Check-in and Baggage Claim:
Check-in counters and baggage claim are in the main Terminal B building. It's efficient and well-organized, though queues can build up during peak hours. Pro tip: download the Hawaiian Airlines app and check-in online beforehand!
The West Gates Trek:
Brace yourselves, folks, because your Hawaiian adventure starts with a mini-expedition. Departures happen from the West Gates (201-225), which involves a 15-20 minute walk through a maze of corridors, escalators, and even an underground tunnel. Pack your comfy shoes and maybe some jet lag-busting coffee, because it's a journey.
West Gates Amenities:
The good news is, the West Gates have their own set of shops and restaurants, though not as extensive as the main terminal. There's a decent food court, duty-free stores, and even a Hawaiian Airlines Premier Club lounge for eligible passengers.
Tips for a Smooth Journey:
Plan for the walk: Allocate extra time to get to your gate, especially if you have mobility limitations or lots of luggage. Remember, island time starts with airport time! Hydrate and fuel up: Grab snacks and drinks in the main terminal before the West Gates trek. The options are more limited over there. Check your gate frequently: Gates sometimes change at the last minute, so keep an eye on the screens or download the LAX app for real-time updates. Relax and enjoy: Breathe in the island vibes, listen to some ukulele music, and get excited for your Hawaiian adventure! Overall, while the long walk to the West Gates can be a bit of a drag, Terminal B itself is a pleasant experience. Just plan ahead, wear good shoes, and remember, you're about to embark on a tropical getaway!
Mahalo for reading, and happy travels!
